About the Artist:
On the visual journey through Rebecca Chaperon’s work we are repeatedly immersed in surreal versions of the world, places that waver just outside of our perception. Hovering crystals, palatial icebergs, mysterious caves, and psychedelic gardens make up some of the images found in each painting series. Her work shifts between treating landscape as figurative representation to highly symbolic spaces that hint at a mysterious narrative.
Chaperon lives and works in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Her work is exhibited and collected internationally. She is a two-time recipient of Canada Council Awards for two series: Antarticus and Cave Paintings. Born in England in 1978, Rebecca Chaperon attended Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC until graduation in 2002. Her work is inspired by her love of all things mysterious and fantastic and by her consideration of human perception and existence.
